Are you a student lost about what post-secondary education is required to practice aesthetics? Then, you're in the right place!
When you pop this question into Google, you will probably be led with several resources. But after sifting and sifting, you may realize you return to your original question absolutely clueless!
Because aesthetics is not limited to particular career paths, there is no definitive path for one to strictly follow. However, it is more common for aspiring doctors, dentists, registered nurses (RN), and physician assistants (PA) to practice aesthetics. A general question sought in the college selection process is what major to pursue as an undergraduate. You can pursue ANY major of interest, including those that are completely unrelated to science. As long as prerequisites are met for the schools you want to apply for, you can pursue any major you want. Generally, some common majors include biology, chemistry, biochemistry. Also, be sure to gain some form of experience, such as shadowing. This is a requirement for many programs and schools out there, but shadowing allows for exposure to the medical profession and ensures it is the fight fit for you. With that being said, reach out to everyone you possibly can.
Following the education received in medical, dentist, nursuing, and PA school, it is recommended to take certification courses for botox and dermal fillers (note: you may also take additional courses of interest including lash extensions etc). These courses can be found through networking with other health professionals or even through an online search.
Of course, the subsequent action to take after receiving such education is practice. Practice, practice, practice! Practice makes perfect! Practice on your friends and family. This will not only better prepare you for future patients, but will also provide with you a confidence boost.
Aesthetics offers an immense measure of freedom, so be sure to personalize your research and network with a wide range of people.
